Fifth Avenue, north across 52nd Street, showing an early view of this important Manhattan thoroughfare. Prominently shown are the two churches long identified with this locale. Respectively they are, St. Thomas' P. E. Church, erected in 1870 at the N. W. corner of 53rd Street, and the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, erected in 1875 at the N. W. corner of 55th Street. Preceding the latter are the trees in front of St. Lukes Hospital. Beyond is Central Park and its "Gold Coast". The Vm. K. Vanderbilt chateau-like mansion is on the left, at the N. W. corner of 52nd Street. Partially appearing on the margin is the home of Mrs. Elliot F. Shepard. About 1890
