End of January 1910, Paris experiences its flood of the century: snowmelt and heavy rain makes the Seine rise 8 meters above the normal level, 12 of the 20 Arrondissments stand under water for weeks. Most affected are roads near the Seine, but the water fills the Paris underground and emerges at distant places, like here in front of the St. Lazare train station, where a small lake arises. The infrastructure collapses, thousands of residents have to be evacuated and losses in the billions are made.
