Photograph caption dated March 12, 1979 reads, "Plane crash investigators climb aboard the wing of the downed Swift Aire Lines plane in Marina Del Rey."On March 10, 1979, Swift Aire Lines, Inc., Flight 235, an Aerospatiale Nord 262, N418SA, was being operated as a scheduled passenger flight from Los Angeles, California, to Santa Maria, California. About 1745 P.s.t., Flight 235 departed the commuter passenger terminal at the Los Angeles International Airport to taxi to the end of runway 24L via the parallel taxiway. The flight was operating on instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan there were four passengers three crewmembers on board. it crashed into the Pacific Ocean off Santa Monica shortly after departing from LAX. The report on the crash determined the right engine failed during takeoff and the flight crew responded to the alarms by shutting off the left engine rendering the plane powerless.
