The building was built between 1912 and 1914 by the architect Peter Behrens for what was then the Continental Caoutchouc and Gutta-Percha Co. (later: Continental AG) established. Due to the First World War, the administration building could only be expanded during the Weimar Republic in the years from 1919 to 1920. Since then, the building has been used by Continental AG as the main administrative headquarters.During World War II the building was severely damaged. During the reconstruction years, the Continental high-rise on Königsworther Platz was built by the architects Ernst Zinsser and Werner Dierschke from 1952 to 1953 as the new headquarters of "Conti". The old administration building was rebuilt with major changes and later placed under monument protection. In 1984, the city of Hanover acquired the administration building on Vahrenwalder Strasse for 16 million marks .
