The demolition of the Hall of Records underway on March 22, 1973, as seen from Broadway. Neighboring structures include the Criminal Courts Building, left, and the California State Building, later demolished. Constructed between 1909 and 1911 to the cost of over a million dollars, the 12-story Hall of Records at 220 N. Broadway was completely demolished by September 1973. In 1931, the California State Building was constructed. It suffered severe damage as a result of the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake and was demolished in 1976.
