Where houses and dirt roads once stood, now tall buildings and businesses have been erected. This is a view of west 11th Street as seen from Main Street in the year 1930. Several tall commercial buildings, hotels, and smaller businesses can be seen throughout the photo. On the right corner, signs for: The Teague Drug Co., Franks Coffee Shop, and Snookers, are visible. On the left, mid-photo, is the Herald-Examiner Building, designed by Architect Julia Morgan and constructed between 1912 and 1915 in a Mission Revival style it features colorful domes, tile roofs, white walls and arched openings. It was designated historical landmark No. 178 on August 17, 1977. A United Parcel Service truck, now known simply as "UPS", can be seen crossing the intersection along with several cars. The truck still appears to be in the familiar brown color recognizable by many.
