reserve (national monument) in the United States. It was founded on April 1, 1931 as a division of the US National Park Service. Located in northeast Arizona within the Navajo reservation. Here, the ruins of the Anasazi Indians, as well as those who later occupied these Navajo lands, are preserved. Access to the canyon is limited, visitors are entitled to visit it only accompanied by a guide, usually from the Navajo tribe.
