It was erected by the British in 1819-1824 and was intended for the residence of the High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Maitland. The building consists of three floors and is divided into two parts, one of which is named after St. George, the second - in honor of St. Michael. Covered galleries have two exits: to the Venetian harbor and the palace park. Now the building houses the Museum of Asian Art. Here is a collection of more than 10 thousand exhibits. A public library, an archive of the Ionian Senate and the Inspectorate of Classical Antiquities are located on site.
