Deni Didro's monument, the son of the manufacturer of knives from the city of Langra, ingenious self-taught, rising to the struggle, directed against slavery, superstition and prejudice, was settled in 1886. The initiator of the perpetuation of his memory was made by the Committee of Free Thought Just before the century since the death of the philosopher (in 1884). The work on the implementation of the monument was ordered by the Paris sculptor Jean Gotherene. The master was already widely known for its statues from marble and bronze, which was made on the orders of the Paris City Hall. The monument is at this place (145, BD Saint-Germain) only since 1940. Previously, he was on the boulevard opposite Saint Benua Street.
