Buckingham Fountain is a Chicago landmark in Grant Park. It was dedicated in 1927. In the center of the photo is the Standard Oil building under construction. When completed in 1973 (the year after this photo), it will be 1,136 feet (346 m) tall and 83 stories high. It was built as the headquarters of the Standard Oil Co. in Indiana. The name was changed to Amoco Center when the company changed its name. The building has since been sold and named Aon Center after its main tenant, a financial services company. The John Hancock Center is in the background.
