Construction began in 1852 and ended in 1871. Painted temple famous artist Grigory Gagarin (he also recreated the frescoes in the Tbilisi Zion in the Bethania Monastery and other Georgian churches) .On the territory of the cathedral were buried Metropolitan Anthony Giorgadze and Besarion Dadiani. In addition to the clergy, they were buried here cadets who died in the battles for Tbilisi in February 1921 goda.S 1924 the cathedral was closed and dismantled.
