The castle dates back to the 14th-15th centuries, completely restored in 1815 in the neo-Gothic style. At the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. the castle was modernized: steam heating, gas lighting, internal telephone. Château de Courtanvaux throughout its long history of existence has always been passed down by inheritance or marriage. The last owner was Pierre de Montesquiou (1909-1976), who permanently lived in another castle - Château de Marsan. After his death, the castle of Courtanvaux was sold to the local municipality, which opened it to the public. Today, Courtanvaux is an area of almost 68 hectares, around the castle there are walking and cycling paths through the forest, a lake, playgrounds and even picnic areas. The park in English-style, it faces a large castle and has an elegant French garden in the courtyard. The entire park is accessible free of charge all year round. Courtanvaux Castle is open to visitors from April to September.
