The church was designed in 1859, built in 1869-1874. The church is an interpretation of Ani Cathedral. Size and structure are fully consistent with the Aniyan original, but richer in terms of forms. The church was built in the city through donations. The architect of the church is Thaddeus Antikyan. In Soviet times, they tried to destroy the church: they blew it up, broke it with military equipment. But the walls stood, and after the war she was turned into a concert hall. 1988 An earthquake destroyed the church, the bell tower collapsed. In 2013, the building was restored.
