April 1945 during the capture of the city of Stettin (Szczecin) by the Soviet troops. The currently unavailable monument to the Prussian king and German Kaiser Wilhelm the first was unveiled on November 1, 1894 on Koenigs Platz square. The statue is cast in bronze, the stone pedestal is decorated with bas-reliefs with historical miniatures, bronze figures of soldiers were installed at the corners of the pedestal. These figures were removed and remelted during World War II. The monument itself was dismantled by decision of the Polish authorities on July 31, 1945 and transported to Denmark, where it was re-melted. A replica of the monument to Jozef Poniatowski, which was replaced by the Germans in Warsaw in December 1944, was later cast from the bronze obtained. In 1950, a monument of Thanks to the Soviet Army was erected on this site.
