History of the gate: In 1945, although the porch was not damaged, it was removed for aesthetic reasons. In addition, part of the city wall that ran north of the Fisherman's Bastion gate and withstood air raids was demolished for transport projects that never materialized. Until 1960 there was a tram line through the gate.
