Broadway, East side, from 14th to 13th Streets. The Demarest Building on the S.E. corner of 14th Street, built by the Domestic Sewing Machine Company in 1872, was at that time the highest building in New York, and was so advertised. It was replaced by a twenty-three story building between 1925 and 1930. The Roosevelt Building, which adjoins it, would rise in 1936. About 1921.Actually the Demarest building is a multi-purpose commercial building located at 339 Fifth Avenue in the borough of Manhattan.
