Ludwig van Beethoven an apartment in the garden wing of the house. Beethoven’s grandfather Lodewijk (Ludwig 1712 - 1773) moved to Bonn from the Flemish Mechelen 38 years before the birth of the great composer. In Bonn, Lodewijk became a court musician in the service of the Elector of Cologne, whose residence was located in this small German city. The only son of Lodewijk Johann also served as a court musician at the Cologne Elector. In 1767, Johann van Beethoven married Maria Magdalene Köferich, a daughter of a high court rank, who served in the service of the Archbishop of Trier. On December 17, 1770, the boy was baptized in the church of St. Remigius in Brüdergasse lane.
