View of the London Tower Bridge under construction, probably in 1893. The construction of Tower Bridge started in 1881 and it opened in 1894. The framework for the towers and walkways required more than 11,000 tons of steel, which were then clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone, to protect the underlying steelwork.
