GM plant workers inspect damage from Purge thinner tank that exploded this morning, sending the tank crashing on top of the plants roof. Photograph dated July 25, 1988. A 4,000-gallon storage tank containing paint thinner exploded outside the General Motors assembly plant, located at 7500 N. Tyrone Avenue in Van Nuys, hurling the top of the tank onto a roof at the plant and igniting a small fire, but injuring no one. The cause of the explosion was not known, but was believed to be accidental.
