Park Avenue, north from 50th Street, showing the center parks as they were from about 1917 to 1927. In the foreground, the Hotel Ambassador on the N.E. corner of 5lst Street is shown. From 52nd to 53rd Streets on the east side stands the Montans, one of the earlier modern apartment buildings, erected 1913 on the site of the old Steinway Piano Factory. Careful scrutiny of the N.E. corner of 53rd Street will show that a small building has just been demolished an apartment house is to be erected. On the west side from 52nd to 53rd Streets is the Racquet and Tennis Club, and above it a block of small buildings dating back to the 1880's. Summer 1924. The New York Public Library has the negative of this picture available for reproduction.
