Remains of the old fortifications in Dreux, seen from the Boulevard des Maillotières. Due to its location on the border between the French Crown Domain and the Duchy of Normandie, the city of Dreux has long been a bone of contention and has therefore been fortified since the 13th century. After a siege in the 16th century, the fortifications fell to ruins. To this day, some remains are left on the mountain, such as the walls and four round towers, one of which can be seen here in the picture. Today, a chapel and a cemetery can be found on the mountain between the old walls.
