Street and Horse Spay (Dutch Spui, pronounced "Spau") - one of the squares in the center of Amsterdam (Netherlands). The name of the square comes from the spillway (Dutch spui), which until 1425 formed the southern border of the city. When the Singel Canal was dug in the Middle Ages, a new sluice called Boerenverdriet (lit. Peasant Mountain) was erected on the pond. In 1882, the spillway fell asleep
