The central part of the city from a bird's flight. In the foreground is the dome of the church of St. Michael (Sankt-Michaelis-Kirche), popularly called "Michel". Next to the church is a monument to church reformer Martin Luther. Unfortunately, the bottom of the picture has been lost. In earlier times, Michel was the last frontier and outpost of a decent world because immediately after it, in the western direction, the St. Pauli district begins with Reeperbahn Street, the capital of dubious liberties and debauchery of the German Empire.
