Side facade of the Concertgebouw Concert Hall. Concert Hall in Amsterdam. The name translates from Dutch simply as “concert hall”. It was built in 1883-1888. designed by architect Adolf Leonard van Gendt and opened on April 11, 1888 with a concert from the works of Bach, Handel, Beethoven and Wagner. Six months later, the self-titled orchestra debuted in Consertgebau, for which Consertgebau became a permanent home. The Concertgebau large hall accommodates 2,037 listeners, the small one has 478 seats. The names of 45 composers are engraved on the balconies of the Great Hall, including 12 Dutch authors (starting with Orlando di Lasso) and major authors from different countries, including Richard Strauss and Igor Stravinsky.
