Ref: NLA20140228002"In Trade Directories around the mid-1880s Joseph Bell appears as a grocer at4 Penny Street and in 1900 John and Walter Bell appear as grocers at the same address. This is probably the family shop in the picture. A Joseph Bell, born in Winster, Westmorland appears in the 1871 Census as a grocer living at 156 Penny Street. His sons John and Walter also go into the grocery business as does John's son, Joseph Edward who appears as a Grocer's Assistant in the 1911 Census." (from photo source page)
