Exterior view of an oil rig located on Venice and Western. Viewed from the alley side, the rig is shown enclosed by a 10-foot high concrete block wall, except for the access gate. Rig is 100 feet from many apartment units to the west, and less than 100 feet from a Safeway store to the east. For additional safety precautions, site was excavated 2 to 3 feet lower than a parking lot area. Photo dated: January 7, 1959.
