Venice's famous "pike," world-renown for its thrill rides, side shows and midway barkers, must be removed, according to an order of the City Playground and Recreation Commission. Southern California landmark since 1906, the pier is pictured here, a $2,000,000 amusement zone. It was destroyed by fire during Christmas week of 1920, but rebuilt soon after and developed to its present size by the Abbott Kinney Corp., directors of which will meet late to day to decide what, if anything, can be done to save it. Photo dated: January 12, 1946.
