Fifth Avenue, north from 52nd Street, showing prominently St. Thomas' P. E. Church (N. W. corner of 53rd Street) and the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church (N. W. corner of 55th Street). Between these is St. Lukes Hospital and its wooded grounds. Note the vacant space on the left, same being the 52nd to 53rd Street frontage. The Wm. K. Vanderbilt chateau and several brownstones were later built there. Incidently, St Thomas' was erected in 1870 and the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, in 1875. 1876
