Aerial view of Pioneer Flintkote, located at 5500 S. Alameda Street (running up the middle), between 52nd St. (horizontally at forefront) and 55th St. in the Central Manufacturing District of Vernon view is looking north. Photograph dated July 5, 1960. Pioneer Flintkote are manufacturers of asphalt and paper products such as roofing tiles and fiberboard. This site has seen many unfortunate events through the years: An asphalt vat explosion and fire occurred in 1953 a fire swept through thousands of bales of cardboard and fiberboard in 1955 and a steam explosion occurred at the paper plant in 1957.
