Engine Company No. 16 was formed on August 1, 1904, and was originally located at 139 N. Hope Street. On September 5, 1912, Truck No. 6 was headquartered in the same building, but transferred to Engine Company No. 4 five years later. On March 8, 1962, Engine Company No. 16 moved to a new location at 2011 N. Eastern Avenue where it presently operates, serving the South El Sereno area. Photograph dated: August 1960In September of 1871, George M. Fall, the County Clerk for Los Angeles County organized Engine Company No. 1. This volunteer firefighting force disbanded in 1874 after the City Council refused to purchase horses to pull the fire engine and hose jumper - equipment that had previously been hand-drawn to fires. Soon after, many of the former members reorganized under the name of Thirty-Eights-No. 1. In May 1875, Engine Co. No. 2 was organized under the name Confidence Engine Company. In 1877, the first horses were bought for the fire department.
