Monaster Opieki Matki Bożej w Turkowicach One of the significant centers of Orthodoxy in the Kholmshchina was a monastery in Turkovichi. It existed already in the XVI century, was eliminated in the XVIII century. and resumed as a convent at the beginning of the 20th century. After the First World War, the Polish authorities did not give permission for its existence, and the premises housed an agricultural school, which operates there today. This monastery was famous for the Turkovitsky Icon of the Mother of God. Thousands of pilgrims flocked here on an annual holiday, even at a time when the monastery no longer existed. This tradition froze after the Orthodox Ukrainian population was evicted from these territories in the 1940s.
