The Basilica of San Pietro di Castello is located on the island of the same name and was founded in the 8th century on the site of a Romanesque castle (as reflected in the name), the building depicted in the photograph was built at the end of the 16th century. Until the beginning of the 19th century, the church was a cathedral. On the left is the San Pietro Bridge and the Arsenal Wall behind it. Photo from the collection of the Library of Congress.
