Czech Republic > Southwest > Jihočeský kraj > VarvažovThe central structure of the fortified subcastle was a Gothic church with a small cemetery above the confluence of the Vltava and Otava rivers north of Zvíkov Castle. It stood about halfway down the road that led from the Otava and Vltava gates, around which most of the buildings were concentrated. – It was a simple building with a rectangular floor plan, the walls were slightly conical, 10 m long and 8.6 m wide. The church was finished with a pentagonal end measuring 5 x 3.6 m. The presbytery was probably decorated with frescoes similar to in the castle chapel. The windows were probably rebuilt at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. The thickness of the masonry was 1 m on average. The interior was paved with three levels of paving.
