This view of the athletic fields at the Manual Arts High School captures women playing basketball, bleachers, and some of the campus buildings on the right.Manual Arts High School was established in 1910, was the third school in Los Angeles (after L.A. High and L.A. Polytechnic High) and is the oldest high school in the L.A. Unified School District that remains on its original site at 4131 South Vermont Avenue. When it was founded, Manual Arts was a vocational high school, but today teaches a traditional curriculum. After the 1933 earthquake, architects John and Donald Parkinson designed and built the school's new buildings in PWA Streamline Moderne Style. In 1994, the school was reconfigured to a four-year school, catering to grades 9-12.
