Until 1914 there was a hotel for sailors and fishermen at this place. In 1914, the construction of the building began for the needs of the post and telegraph (in 1968, the post moved to the new building in, and the telegraph in 1956). From 1971 to 1996 there was a police department, and from 2002 - the North Norwegian Museum of Art.
