Fourth Avenue, west side, north from East 22nd to 24th Streets. The dominant structure, the Wills and Gibbs Building replaced (about 1912) the Fourth Avenue Presbyterian Church. Adjoining this is the Mercantile Building, a replacement (about 1906) of the Y. M. C. A. Building. Occupying the 23rd to 24th Street frontage is the easterly side of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Building. The 23rd Street corner portion of this location was formerly the site of the Academy of Design. About 1920
