Zvolen was created by the road crossing the Hron River in the north and Slatin in the south. King Ludvík the Great built above the southern ford in the second half of the 14th century. the castle, and below it, along the road connecting the Slatina ford with the Hronský ford, houses lined up in an elongated square with a church.
