Text from the book:"Periodically fires consumed slums - but there was at least some hope that the next housing might be better and even escape urban blight. After its 1871 holocaust, Chicago rose from its ashes like a phoenix, reborn in skyscrapers typified by the steel-skeletoned Reliance Building, completed in 1895. A Chicago Architectural Landmark, it still stands."
