The German cathedral was built between 1702 and 1708. Similar to the French cathedral, the name only refers to the baroque dome, which was only added later. After the March Revolution, many Berliners thought of the fallen at a service who had been laid out on the stairs. The painting "Appreciation of the March fallen" testifies to this event. During the Second World War, the German Cathedral was destroyed by a fire in 1943 and was only slowly rebuilt from 1982 to 1996.
