Cauterets reached a boom in the 19th century and during the "Belle époque", when it attracted many tourists, including some famous people like Victor Hugo and Heinrich Heine. Some monuments still bear witness to these times, such as the former casino on the left side of the "Esplanade des oufs". Since a few years, a cinema is located in it.
