Founded in 1922, the name is derived from two Latin words: Rhodia - Rhône river and seta - silk (in 1934 the name was modified: the letter «c» has replaced the letter «s», now the second half of the word has come to mean acetate). During World War II, the company was the only large factory in the district of Vaise, not subjected to the Allies bombed.
