Having lost the role of the king's residence, the Palace of the Cite transformed into the Palace Pravosudiya.Nazvanie "Conciergerie" means that a private mansion concierge at the prison courts. Leaving the palace, the king trusted his guard concierge. Equally important post could occupy only a very influential person of high rank, among them was Queen Isabella of Bavaria. At the Conciergerie inside the palace walls at all times there was a prison room. At the end of the XIV century, when the nearby prison at the Chatelet was overcrowded, some prisoners were transferred to the palace chambers. In 1391 the building became an official prison. It contained, and political prisoners, and crooks, and ubiytsy.Posle sentencing convicts were taken to the place of execution, on the Place de Greve (now the area of the Hotel de Ville), wrapped on the way to Notre Dame, where the porch was sound public penance.
