The most famous landmark in Chambéry - Elephant Fountain, erected in 1838 in honor of the Comte de Buan, a native of the city who had amassed wealth, serving as a mercenary in India, and spent much of his vast fortune to the development of his native city. Therefore, the grateful residents of Chambery designed and installed a fountain as a reminder of this graph and the period that he spent in Indii.Na top of the fountain column stands a memorial de Buan. This large structure is surrounded by 4 massive and realistic elephants, but you can only see only their front part of the body and head with huge ears, all the other parts of the building hidden in the recesses of the fountain, which was the basis for the local wits called the monument "Four without backsides."
