The market square and town hall of the northern French city of Compiègne (Picardy), at the beginning of World War I The late Gothic style building was constructed at the time of Louis XII. , whose equestial statue can be seen on the façade. The bell tower with two levels houses the "Bancloque", a bell dating back to 1303, while the hours are beaten by the "Picantins". Four years later, the armistice of the First World War was signed in the forest close to it. Although the city became victim of two World Wars, the town hall survived both.
