The building was designed in 1862 the Edinburgh architects John Dick Peddie and Charles Kinnear and opened in 1866 as the Morgan Hospital - a charitable institution that provides housing and education for the "sons of merchants and working class people whose parents need help." (John Morgan made his fortune in India and, after returning home, engaged in charity.) In 1888, Morgan Hospital closed, and a year later, in 1889, re-opened, but as Morgan Academy.Zdanie school is similar in design Fettes College Edinburgh (cf.:).In 2001 the school was hit by a fire that destroyed most of the building.
