An aerial view of the Veterans' Administration buildings in Westwood, California, looking north near the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Federal Ave. Much of the surrounding area is undeveloped park or fields.The Veterans' Administration Hospital is located near Sawtelle Boulevard in West Los Angeles. It was established by the United States Government in 1888 as the Pacific branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Santa Monica founders John P. Jones and Robert S. Baker donated 300 acres and $50,000 for the new facility, which was designed by architect Stanford White, and could accommodate 2,000 beds.
