Kyiv
Since the beginning of its history, the life of Kyiv revolved around the Pochaina river, whose lower reach served as a convenient harbor. Over time, natural and anthropogenic factors led to the merging of the Pochaina's mouth with the Dnieper. The new harbor designed by Nikolai Maksimovich has been constructed in 1897-1899 in a shallowed bay that once was the Pochaina's middle reach. One of the mentioned natural factors—the Dnieper's seasonal flood—can be seen in the photo.
