Crowds gather under several international flags at the Olympic Village in Baldwin Hills, where the male athletes were housed during the 1932 Olympics. Location is approximate. This Olympic Village, made up of several hundred buildings, including post and telegraph offices, an amphitheater, a hospital, a fire department, and a bank, operated from July 30 until August 14, 1932. Each residence had two bedrooms, two closets, and a shower bath. For $2 per day, a male athlete had shelter and could dine at central dining rooms, where dishes from every participating nation were offered. After the games were concluded, the cabins were dismantled and sold off to individuals, who converted them into guest homes, as well as mountain cabins and beach cottages to use throughout Southern California. Female olympians were housed across town at the Chapman Park Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard. The Baldwin Hills was the the location of the first Olympic Village for the modern Olympic games.
