The Disconto-Society, founded in 1851 as a cooperative loan institution, acquired a semi-detached house built around 1800 in Behrenstrasse 43/44 in 1856 and moves in there with its business areas. In 1868 the building was rebuilt by the architect Friedrich Hitzig in the style of the neo -Renaissance and receives a stately facade with a slightly protruding middle risalite. From 1888 the Disconto-Society had its headquarters torn down and built a five-storey banking palace by 1901 after plans by Ludwig Heim.
