The famous hotel building, harmoniously fitting into the landscape of Karlovy Vary and meeting the strict criteria of sanatorium architecture, which attaches great importance to artistic details, a feeling of spaciousness and comfort, was inaugurated on June 18, 1912. The idea to build this “fabulous” international grand hotel was born from a Karlovy Vary banker and industrialist Alfred Schwalb. At the beginning of the last century, he bought a building plot, well located above the city, which at that time already lacked places to receive its guests. Hired an experienced French architect Ernst Ebrrard, who took part in the design of buildings in Hanoi and in the Greek Soloniki. According to his project and under his leadership, a new landmark of the city grew in 1910 - 1912 on the hill “Elenin Dvor”. The Grand Hotel Imperial, by the way, was the first facility in the Czech Republic built using the new, at that time, technology of cast concrete.
